Man Utd transfer news: Glazers intervene on Paul Pogba and make decision on Barcelona sale | Football | Sport

Manchester United midfielder Pogba wants to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona having grown frustrated at Jose Mourinho’s brutal treatment of him.

The France international, who signed for the club back in the summer of 2016 for £89million, helped his side win the World Cup in Russia back in July.

Despite Manchester United struggling, Pogba has actually been impressive this season, scoring four goals from 10 appearances.

Back in the summer, Barcelona saw a bid for the World Cup winner rejected.

And Mundo Deportivo claim it was the Glazers’ intervention that saw him stay put.

It is said that the Catalan giants contacted the club and asked Ed Woodward about Pogba.

They knew the player wanted to join to fulfil his dream of playing alongside Lionel Messi.

Originally, reports claimed that Barcelona were unable to strike an agreement for the United star due to his high wages demands and the club’s eagerness to secure a massive fee.

Yet Mundo Deportivo say that was not the case.

Instead, the Glazers stepped in and refused to let Pogba go.

The player is seen as an integral part of their setup and the Glazers reportedly told Barcelona he was their own Messi.

And, for now, the chances of the France international moving to La Liga appear slim.

Meanwhile, Pogba has broken his silence on Mourinho’s decision to strip him of the vice-captaincy role.

“I’ve never played for the France team to be captain, already being here is a big thing for me,” Pogba said.

“You don’t have to be captain to speak.

“For me, a leader isn’t someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain’s armband.

“It’s the squad that put me in that position, who gave me the freedom to express myself, and gave me the confidence to.”
