Arsenal news: Aaron Ramsey Gunners warning sent by club legend Alan Smith | Football | Sport

Ramsey is set to leave Arsenal as a free agent next summer with reports suggesting the Gunners have retracted any contract offer they had previously made.

The 27-year-old has been at Arsenal for ten years and it’s believed he wants to stay but it seems he will have to make a move.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus have all been linked to the midfielder who is sure to have plenty of offers.

But Smith believes Arsenal should return to negotiations in an attempt to keep Ramsey.

“I think we all hoped this kind of situation would cease to happen with [head of recruitment Sven] Mislintat coming and [head of football Raul] Sanllehi,” Smith told Love Sport Radio.

“Maybe they arrived a little too late. I don’t know.

“It’s difficult to really speak without knowing the details but maybe Mesut Ozil’s vast salary is the reason they’re not prepared to put Ramsey anywhere near it and he’s not prepared to sign.

“But then again who is going to to give him that money? I don’t know.

“Where would he go? You would imagine his agent has already spoken to a few clubs so he’s got half an idea where he might end up.

“It would be a shame to lose him, it would be such a shame. I think, like a few players there, he can be developed into a top player.

“He’s pretty good as it is and he’s got this knack of scoring goals on the big stage and in important matches.

“It would be a blow if we lost him.”

Ramsey’s Wales manager Ryan Giggs believes the midfielder could fit in to any club should he leave Arsenal.

“Aaron can play anywhere and for any club, he’s suited to any league,” Manchester United legend Giggs said.

“He’s played at the top with Arsenal and has been there for 10 years. Then there’s all the games he’s played for Wales.

“He’s a goalscoring midfielder who, if he plays 40-45 games a season, is going to score 15 goals. They don’t grow on trees.

“He’s also a good character, has a good personality, and is a good professional. So if he does go, somebody is getting a very good player.”
