The Chase: Bradley Walsh loses it after contestant’s Fanny Chmelar reference | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Bradley Walsh is famous for cracking up on The Chase, and he is often unable to host the show for a short while so that he can get over the giggles.

It’s one of the many reasons why people love the show so much, and it’s part of Bradley’s charm as a host.

Today featured one of these moments, yet the contestant’s incredible reference made it even better.

The contestant, Ben, didn’t know the answer to a question during his cash builder and decided to refer back to an iconic previous answer on the show.

“The Art of Painting and The Geographer are works of art by which Dutch artist?” asked Bradley.

To which Ben answered: “Fanny Chmelar,” whilst managing to keep an incredibly straight face.

The artist was of course not Fanny Chmelar, and Bradley managed to reveal that the correct answer was Vermeer.

Bradley then started to laugh, but he had to compose himself so that Ben could have a shot at answering more questions in his cash builder.

Fanny Chmelar is a German former alpine skier, and she was the answer to a question which caused Bradley to laugh uncontrollably in an old episode of the quiz show.

Bradley later apologised about laughing at the skier’s name whilst appearing on Loraine.

Ben ended up with an impressive £6,000, yet he was unable to beat the Chaser.

After his cash builder, Bradley asked Ben whether he was put up to giving that as an answer.

“Who put you up to that?” he asked with a grin.

“It’s been in my head for a while,” he replied cheekily.

Even though Ben didn’t make it all the way to the final round, he certainly left a lasting impression on the show, and Bradley enjoyed his unique brand of humour.

However, Ben did shock Bradley and The Chaser during his time on the show by admitting that he had appeared on a rival game show.

“Strangely enough, this is an answer I gave on Pointless,” he said when a question he knew the answer to turned up.

“You were on Pointless?” asked the Chaser in surprise.

“You were on a rival show?” said Bradley in a state of apparent shock.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
