Rafael Nadal reveals how Roger Federer is different to every other Grand Slam champion | Tennis | Sport

Nadal has lauded Federer, who was sent tumbling out of the US Open in dramatic circumstances earlier this month.

The 37-year-old eased through to the quarter-finals but was unable to overcome John Millman, who rocked him as temperatures at the Arthur Ashe stadium reached boiling point.

Rafael Nadal and Federer are set to compete in the Laver Cup later this year, though the Spaniard is currently sidelined with a knee injury that forced him out of his own US Open showdown with Juan Martin del Potro.

And Nadal has now praised Federer, hailing him as the complete tennis player.

“I’ve never seen anybody with all the ingredients that Roger has,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s got a big serve, big forehand, unbelievable movement, and at the same time he plays with unbelievable elegance.”

Rod Laver then added: “Roger Federer has got all the shots.

“His anticipation, his timing, he plays the match as he sees it.”

Federer recently, in true Federer style, distanced himself from claims he is the greatest of all time.

“Yeah, I don’t know,” he said.

“It is awkward in some ways, and it’s a bit of a trap at times because you answer it 50 times and you have to answer it 50 times exactly the same, or you change it up a bit and then it sounds different.

“People pick out whatever they want to hear, so obviously I’ve gotten used to talking about it, being in the conversation.

“And looking at my results, obviously, I’m amazed how far I’ve come myself.

“Then again, I’m still playing, and as long as I’m playing, for me, there is no reason to start comparing to the other ones because I haven’t finished.

“I think I should be judged then.

“At the same time, obviously, I’m very pleased with how well my career has gone.

“I am more comfortable today in front of the press and in the public eye than I used to be. There is no doubt about that.”
