Canelo vs GGG 2: Alvarez has Golovkin running scared with excuses – Eric Gomez | Boxing | Sport

That’s according to Golden Boy president Eric Gomez, who promotes Alvarez.

Saturday night sees middleweight champion Golovkin take on Alvarez in a re-match of their blockbuster bout last year.

The fight ended in a controversial split decision with udge Adalaide Byrd receiving widespread criticism for scoring the fight 118-110 in favour of Alvarez.

The re-match was thrown into jeopardy when Alvarez failed a drugs test for a banned substance, forcing the fight to be delayed.

And controversy refuses to disappear from the fight with Golovkin’s team demanding action on Alvarez for allegedly illegally wrapping his hands using a method called “stacking”.

The method is permitted in Nevada and Texas but the technique has still caused fury in Golovkin’s team.

However, Gomez suggests the Kazakhstani’s camp are trying to use all the excuses they can find as a smokescreen ahead of Saturday night’s fight.

“They’re coming up with everything you can imagine,” Gomez said.

“They’re complaining about Canelo’s beard.

“They have complained about the tape.

“They complained about the judges and the referee.

“What that shows me is, they’re worried.

“Every time, they’ve gotten what they wanted, and that’s okay, because we have the better fighter and if they have gotten all of these rulings the way they want, there can be no excuses when Canelo beats him.”
