Aaron Rodgers injury: Green Bay Packers coach McCarthy reveals update | Other | Sport

Rodgers suffered an injury during the Packers’ Week 1 game versus Chicago Bears last weekend.

The quarterback was feared to have suffered a nasty injury but came back onto the field late on to inspire a 24-23 win.

There have been concerns all week that the 34-year-old could be out injured for the rest of the season.

Yet the Packers were boosted earlier this week with the news their star man may be back fit this weekend.

Green Bay play Minnesota on Sunday and coach Mike McCarthy says he’d be happy to pick Rodgers for the game.

“Aaron’s getting better,” McCarthy said. “He was in the meeting this morning.

“I would say he feels better than he did at the beginning of the week.”

and is due to test out his left knee in practice on Saturday and McCarthy admits that will give him an indication of where his quarterback is at.

“Tomorrow’s practice will be a pretty big indicator,” McCarthy added.

“So we’ll see how today goes, but nothing has changed. He’s clearly in the day-to-day.

“Hopefully he’ll be able to do work tomorrow.”

The Packers would likely draft in DeShone Kizer as Rodgers QB replacement if the superstar is unable to play.

But McCarthy is not overly concerned about changing his side around.

“We’ve established that point some time ago in his career. So I think it’s no different,” he added.

“You’d like to walk off the field Saturday and have your plan set, but this is the National Football League, things happen. Guys get sick on Saturday, too.

“That’s all part of our process where we work the practice-squad guys in and everything. So we’ll be ready for anything, but I know he wants to play. So we’ll see how it goes.”
