The Flash season 5 spoilers: Grant Gustin responds to body shamers | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

“I’ve had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin,” Gustin wrote.

“I’ve had my own journey of accepting it. But there’s a double standard where it’s ok to talk s*** about a dudes body.”

The actor continued saying he did his “best to stay in shape” throughout The Flash seasons.

He added: “I’m naturally thin, and my appetite is greatly affected by stress. Stress is something that ebbs and flows for me throughout a season.

“Thus, gaining weight is a challenge for me. I didn’t cast a slim actor as The Flash. I went to an audition for a role I never dreamed I’d actually book.

“But here I am five seasons later.”

The US star who plays Barry Allen in the show – aired on Amazon for UK viewers – continued to say he was happy with his body.

He wrote: “…and who I am and other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way.

“Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday.”

Gustin also defended The Flash’s new suit, saying the unofficial photo wasn’t indicative of what the final suite will look like when season five airs in October.

“I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too.

“Things have been adjusted since that leaked shot was taken, and more things will continue to be adjusted until it feels right,” he finished.

Season five of The Flash will see Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) take on a new foe in Cicada (Chris Klein).

He will, of course, have the help of his friends at STAR Labs, yet Cicada promises to be their toughest challenge yet, even more so than season four’s The Thinker (Neil Sandilands).

In the comics, Cicada is hellbent on killing all the people The Flash has ever saved, and it’s logical to assume he’ll be doing something similar in season five of The CW’s hit show.

The villain will be backed up by his cult of followers, who call themselves The Cicada Cult (very original), and it’s likely that they’ll appear in the TV show.

The Flash season five will air on The CW and Sky One in October.
