NBA trade news: Carmelo Anthony to Houston U-turn, LeBron James mocked, Cavs complete deal | Other | Sport
Carmelo Anthony’s move to Houston Rockets has still yet to be confirmed and fears were sparked that he was performing a remarkable U-turn to re-sign for the Atlanta Hawks.
Anthony has never played a match for the Hawks and is never expected to, but he was traded to the Eastern Conference outfit from Oklahoma City Thunder this offseason.
The move was just a salary dump which quickly allowed him to reach a buyout and join a new team after clearing waivers.
But he cheekily asked the Hawks for a jersey after technically still being on their books, albeit very briefly.
And Lloyd Pierce’s side agreed to send the small forward a momento of what could have been.
The Hawks posted an ‘Anthony 15’ jersey on Twitter, sparking some fears that he was about to U-turn on his move to the Rockets.
But they were quickly quashed as fans realised the full story.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James found the incident hilarious as he jokingly hailed Anthony’s time with the Hawks.
“Helleva run in the A my brother @carmeloanthony!,” he wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, James was mocked by a local Cleveland newspaper for his decision to join the Lakers this offseason.
The three-time NBA champion swapped Cleveland Cavaliers for the Lakers after losing a second NBA Finals in a row.
And as the league fixtures were revealed, focus was obviously going to be drawn to James’ return to his former side.
But the headline in The Plain Dealer newspaper claimed another player was in fact the star and James was just a subsidiary.
“Lonzo Ball and Lakers at The Q on Nov.21,” the main headline read.
While a sub-headline added: “Former Cav James also expected to play.”
In other news, the Cavs have reportedly added Isaiah Taylor to the roster after the point guard signed a one-year deal.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers and guard Isaiah Taylor have agreed to a one-year deal, league sources tell Yahoo,” write Yahoo Sports.
“The Cavs have looked to add another point guard over past week.”
