Man Utd news: Neville reveals ‘weird’ thing Paul Pogba did v Leicester | Football | Sport
Pogba was named captain for the clash at Old Trafford despite only returning to Manchester United training on Monday.
However, within three minutes he had his and United’s first goal of the season.
After Daniel Amartey handled in the box, Pogba stuttered in his run up towards the spot before finishing past Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal.
And Neville was worried with how slow the France World Cup winner was moving.
“When he started, I don’t know what he was doing actually, just moving up towards the ball, you thought ‘oh no, start running quickly, you’re not going to get enough power in it’,” he said on Sky Sports.
“But he’s so confident and he started the game brilliantly, Paul Pogba.
“(It was) weird. I was thinking ‘you’ve got to score’, I was thinking ‘how do you get the power into it?’.
“But he just lifts it over Kasper Schmeichel and when they lift it to the upper part of the net, keepers never get them.”
Alexis Sanchez wanted to take the penalty as well, but Neville says it was Pogba’s turn to take one.
“It always makes me wonder when these chats happen,” he said of Sanchez and Pogba’s discussion.
“Obviously all the analysis the coaches do pre-match, all the set pieces on the board, the penalty takers and free-kick takers.
“But there’s definitely a debate there about who’s going to take it.
“I know that Paul Pogba handed one to Alexis Sanchez last season and he wasn’t giving this one away.”
