Katarina Johnson-Thompson WINS silver in European Championships heptathlon with PB | Other | Sport
Johnson-Thompson had it all to do in the 800m in order to steal the gold medal from Nafi Thiam.
The Brit began the day with an 87-point lead of the Belgian but Thiam impressed in the javelin to put her in the ascendency ahead of the 800m this evening.
Johnson-Thompson knew she had to beat Thiam by a huge margin in the race and at one stage looked on course to cause a major upset, but Thiam got things moving in the last few hundred metres to claim gold.
However, for Johnson-Thompson it is her personal best event tally with 6759, beating her previous best of 6,691.
Thiam did just enough to take gold by the slender margin of 57 points.
Carolin Schafer got the home crowd cheering as well by managing to hold on to bronze medal.
