Putin girlfriend: Is Vladimir Putin married or does he have a secret wife? | World | News
Putin was married to Lyudmila Putina from 1983 until 2014.
The couple met in Leningrad when she was a flight attendant, and they had two daughters, Mariya and Yekaterina.
As the First Lady of Russia, she largely avoided the limelight, except as required by official protocol.
The couple publicly announced their separation in 2013, and the Kremlin confirmed the divorce was finalised in 2014.
Who is Putin dating now?
After the end of his marriage, Mr Putin was rumoured to have started dating Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Alina Kabaeva – unconfirmed rumours that have persisted for more than ten years now.
Ms Kabaeva, 35, now retired as a rhythmic gymnast is also a model, actor and small-scale politician.
She enjoyed vast success as an athlete, becoming one of the most decorated gymnasts in history.
She won Gold at the 2004 Athens Games and Bronze at the 2000 games in Sydney.
Coming from an athletic family – her father was a professional footballer – afforded her a high rank in Russian society.
In 2014, she accepted the position of chair of the board of directors of the National Media Group, the largest pro-Kremlin Russian media conglomerate.
She has long been considered one of the most eligible women in Russia, but has not been linked to any suitors in ten years.
That is, apart from 65-year-old President Putin.
Ms Kabeava was first linked to Putin in 2008 when it was reported by a Moscow newspaper run by media tycoon and former KGB spy Alexander Lebedev.
The Kremlin has constantly denied the romance between the two, but rumours have persisted.
The pair are said to have had at least one child together and were married in secret.
Ms Kabaeva has been seen repeatedly in public wearing a wedding ring.
However, both seem unshakeable in their desire to keep their private lives away from the public eye.
Putin has said: “I have a private life in which I do not permit interference… it must be respected.”
Ms Kabaeva once confessed she had met a man who “I love very much”, declining to name him.
She added: “Sometimes you feel so happy that you even feel scared.”
