Serena Williams vs Angelique Kerber: Tennis expert makes Wimbledon final prediction | Tennis | Sport
In her first Wimbledon since giving birth to daughter Olympia, Williams has reached the final and is on the verge of winning Grand Slam No.24.
That will bring her to the same number as Margaret Court and Carillo believes history is about to be made.
“I can’t see Angelique Kerber beating her,” Carillo said. “It’s unfair to say, Kerber is playing very nicely, but it doesn’t matter to me.
“I’m just so happy to have Serena back. I don’t think anyone stepped up in her absence and became the boss.
“We had some nice moments last year in her absence but I am very happy it’s Kerber and Williams fighting for the Wimbledon championships.
“The fact we have two Grand Slam champions going for another Wimbledon title is going to be lovely.”
Williams was minutes away from death after problems in her pregnancy but is now set to complete one of sport’s greatest ever tales.
“She’s admitted that she talked up a good game coming in here about how she wanted to win the tournament but I don’t think she really believed until the last couple of rounds,” Carillo added.
“I wonder when this is all said and done, and when Serena Williams is old and grey and full of sleep, that she considers this being at least one of her top three proudest achievements.
“If she were to win Wimbledon and getting her eighth title, beating Steffi Graff and tying Margaret Court’s Grand Slam title record after having a baby…
“She will be 37 in September, I have got to assume that will be the greatest things that the greatest ever has done.
“This will not be forgotten – even if she loses.”
