Royal wedding: Odds slashed that Saturday will be hottest day of the year | Travel News | Travel

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are getting married this Saturday, May 19, at Windsor Castle.

Afterwards they will embark on a procession through the town in a royal carriage, as an estimated 100,000 well-wishers get a chance to see the newlyweds up close.

Thankfully, they are set to have good weather on the day, as forecasters predict temperatures well above the May average.

In fact, it’s tipped by some to be the hottest day of the year.

Ladbrokes has cut the odds for the third time this week that a heatwave will hit southern England on Saturday.

According to the bookies, it’s 2/1 the UK will see record temperatures on May 19.

Earlier this week, the odds had been 9/4, but they’ve been reduced as the ceremony approaches.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking increasingly likely the weather will be perfect for the biggest royal event in recent years.”

His colleague Jessica Bridge added: “BBQ fans, royal wedding fans and FA Cup final fans can all rejoice in Saturday’s weather as mother nature has decided the sun will shine gloriously.”

However, that hasn’t stopped bookies taking bets that it might rain on the newlyweds’ parade.

Ladbrokes currently has 7/2 odds on Windsor seeing rain during the wedding ceremony.

Temperatures have dropped across the UK after a warm start to the week, but forecasters say temperatures should climb steadily from Thursday before a warm and sunny weekend.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “High pressure will be in control of the weather through the rest of the week. There is some fine weather to be had.

“There is more fine weather to come for the weekend,” he added.

Odds have also been cut on this month being the hottest May on record.

Meanwhile, there has been a flurry of bets on whether Meghan’s father Thomas Markle will walk her down the aisle, after the news that he may not make it to the wedding.

He told entertainment website TMZ that a heart procedure prevented him from travelling. “They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it is needed.”

However, Meghan’s dad had already previously announced he wouldn’t go to the wedding after it was revealed he had colluded with paparazzi to release photos of himself.

Kensington Palace released a statement on behalf of the royal couple, asking for “understanding and respect” for Thomas.

Betfair spokeswoman Katie Baylis told “While Meghan’s mum Doria is the 6/4 favourite to walk her down the aisle following the news that her father is unlikely to attend the wedding, we also have it as 5/1 that Meghan could just walk down the aisle by herself
